British Council and Soros Foundation Romania organize a debate around the results of the MIPEX III study (Migrant Integration Policy Index), on the 18 April 2011, starting with 10 a.m., at Howard Johnson Hotel in Bucharest...
The event offers the opportunity for participants to share their opinions and their expertise regarding the improvement of the policies aimed at migrants. Participants to this debate include representatives of the diplomatic missions in Romania and also of the central and local authorities who are active in the field of migration, prominent NGOs representatives, independent migrant associations, and independent academic and mass-media experts.
One of the MIPEX signatories will chair the event. The keynote speakers represent the Romanian Office for Immigration, International Organisation of Migration and Ministry of Labour. Thomas Huddleston, Policy Analyst at Migration Policy Group, Brussels, will present the outcomes of the Migrant Integration Policy Index 2010 (MIPEX III).
Romania has been included in the MIPEX study for the first time. Its strongest points refer to the anti-discrimination law, labour market mobility and family reunion.
Aspects that need improvement in Romania are related to political participation, access to nationality and education.
