Netherlands - Public perceptions

While a slight minority (43.2%) believe that the Netherlands should do more to combat discrimination, a large majority believes ethnic discrimination is fairly widespread and 76.7%, the most out of the EU-27, believe that it got worse between 2001 and 2006. Only in the Netherlands and three other EU-27 countries did a majority know of legislation to combat ethnic discrimination in the labour market.

71.9% of Dutch people polled believe that foreigners are less likely to find a job, be accepted for training or be promoted. 36% believe unemployed legally-established immigrants from outside the EU should be deported. However, the Dutch strongly support equal social rights for immigrants. Only a slight minority support their right to family reunion and 39.7% believe that they should benefit from facilitated naturalisation.
