Sweden - Political participation

Sweden has already reached best practice on electoral rights, political liberties and implementation policies. Nevertheless, any legal resident of three years can vote in regional and local elections and stand for local elections. They can join political parties and form their own associations, which can receive public funding or support at all levels of governance. The state actively informs migrants of these rights and does not place any further conditions on rights, funding or support. Although migrant associations can be freely elected to consultative bodies at all levels of governance, Sweden would attain best practice if these bodies were consulted structurally on the policies that most affect the migrants' lives.
